Are you seeking clearer pictures of what life might look like when living well within planetary limits?
What might life be like day-to-day? What are our aspirations for ourselves, our children and our city, in a world with more equity and ecological balance? In this workshop, we will bring to life a vision of what we are striving for, focusing on food in its widest sense. It is for eaters, food shoppers, growers, people who work with food and waste, decision makers in fact EVERYONE!
All around us, both near and far are amazing, successful projects which already show how we can live well within planetary limits. Let’s ensure food is safe, good for us, local and never wasted. Possibilities for local food production, processing and retail to take centre stage and to contribute to the local economy and create jobs, are abundant and rising.
Food growing is increasingly popular both at household and community level enriching our lives through community involvement, through access to better food, improved mental wellbeing and more exercise.

What learning and inspiration can we glean from Cuba’s urban agriculture, Salford’s Biospheric Project, from our local communities and from our elders?
Manchester City Council’s Economic Scrutiny Committee will consider Steady
State Manchester’s recommendation FOOD AS AN ECONOMIC ISSUE: INCREASE LOCAL FOOD PRODUCTION AND PROCESSING at their
December meeting. Having a food focus for this event will ensure the
committee know what we would like them to work towards. Councillors are
invited to be part of this conversation. This is one of Steady State Manchester’s (SSM) regular workshops for supporters. In the spirit of Steady State it would be wonderful if people who can, contribute financially. All welcome regardless of contribution. A suggested figure is £5-10 per person (please give more or less as you can).
